Fees and Payments

Independent Doctors Indicative Fees

All consultations (see exclusions below) are time-based and attract a fee from your treating GP. Fees are payable at the time of consultation by cash, credit card or EFTPOS. Accounts are unfortunately not able to be given. Your doctors charge fees that reflect the time taken and the degree of complexity in each consultation.

Your Independent doctors consultation fee’s range from $60.00 to $165.00.

If you have registered your bank account details with Medicare, Medeco can initiate the Medicare rebate into your nominated bank account on behalf of your doctor. To initiate the Medicare rebate patients must bring with them a DEBIT card as Medicare rebates may not be able to be processed using your mobile phone.

For all payments using Visa/Mastercard, a surcharge of 1.0% will apply. For EFTPOS payments, a surcharge of 0.5% will apply, and if paying via telephone (manual transaction), a surcharge of 1.15% will apply.

If paying by Visa/Mastercard, you will need to attend Medicare for your Medicare rebate.

Accepted methods of payment are cash, EFTPOS, MasterCard or VISA.

Doctors do not accept personal cheques.

Please check with reception or speak with your doctor if you are unsure about any fees.

Your Independent doctor may consider to bulk-bill:

  • Children 16 years or younger
  • Aged and Disability Pension card holders, and Defence Veterans
  • Students with a valid student card (High School students only)
  • Healthcare cardholders

Patients seeking bulk-billing or concession entitlements will need to present a valid Medicare card and valid concession cards at their appointment.

All newborn babies who have yet to be registered with Medicare will be privately billed for all consultations with your doctor until Medicare provide the parents with the above requirements.

New Patients

All new patients are to provide a Medicare card and a secondary form of identification upon completion of your new patient form (excluding children under 16).

Should your doctor refer you to a Specialist or for investigations, a fee may apply.

Doctor Indicative Fees

The practice fees for private appointments may vary for each doctor. Please confirm with the receptionist what the individual doctor’s private fees will be at the time an appointment is made.

Fees are subject to change without prior notice.

Follow-up appointments will be billed at your doctor’s discretion.

Your treating doctor requires all accounts to be settled before another appointment will be made.

*Please note that whilst your treating doctor accepts cash as payment, exact payment is required as your doctor does not keep any cash on the premises to be able to provide change. Please note that a Medicare rebate will not be processed at the time of payment when paying in cash.

How will I know the cost of my appointment before I come in?

Our reception staff will always try to give you the most accurate advice possible about the costs of your appointment ahead of time. However, please keep in mind that the reception staff will only be able to offer you advice based on the information you provide and that your type of consultation may vary in your appointment.

Key indicators that will change the cost of your appointment with your treating GP include the length (time) of your appointment, how many issues you discuss with your doctor, and whether there is a procedure involved in your appointment.

All other healthcare service fees, including (but not limited to) procedural fees, ear syringes, wound dressings fees, ECG fees or Spirometry, will be advised at the time of consultation by your treating GP or reception.

Workers Compensation

Your treating doctor requires all workers’ compensation and motor vehicle accident patients to pay their accounts at the time of consultation until a letter of liability is produced from your insurance company. Patients are requested to advise reception if they think their consultation will be a work cover matter.

Services that are NOT bulk billed by your doctor but “not limited to” are

  • Patients without a valid Medicare Card
  • Certification and reports. e.g. Drivers medical assessment (Excludes General RTA forms)
  • Pre-employment medicals, leisure activity-related medical assessments, insurance and other medicolegal reports
  • Complex/lengthy consultations. The doctor you see will inform you of his/her individual policy in this regard where relevant
  • Home visits
  • Duplication/transfer of medical documents
  • Other special requests (which would have to be evaluated on a case-to-case basis).

Fees for Missed appointments

To ensure your doctor provides the best possible service, your doctor may charge a “failure to attend” fee.

First-time failure to give notice—when either cancelling or postponing an appointment with your doctor 2 hrs prior to your appointment time—will incur a warning letter sent to the patient.

Second-time failure to give notice—when either cancelling or postponing an appointment with your doctor 2 hrs prior to your appointment time—will incur a non-refundable fee of $40.00 per patient.

Third-time failure to give notice—when either cancelling or postponing an appointment with your doctor 2 hrs prior to your appointment time—will incur a non-refundable fee of $80 per patient.

Any subsequent missed appointment—with your doctor 2 hrs prior to your appointment time—will incur a non-refundable fee of $80 per patient.

(These fees will be payable prior to making your next appointment).
